Speeches won't be made today
Clocks will carry on.
Flowers won't be left in parks
Work will still be done.
People won't be dressed in black
Babies will be born.
No flags will fly, the sun will rise
But we will know that you are gone.
You who love to love and believed we can never give enough.
It wakes me every single night thinking through the day
Did you stop at any time
Have doubts at any stage.
Or were you calm or were you numb or happy just to get it done
I've lived my life without regret until today
And you who love to love
And believed we can never give enough.
I didn't get to say goodbye
The day before the day
Was trying to get to work on time that's why I turned away
And missed the most important thing you ever tried to say
I've lived my life without regret until today
And you who love to love and believed we can never give enough.
And you who hoped that underneath
We all felt the same.
That was until the day before the day, the day before the day
The day before the day, oh the day before the day
The day before the day, oh the day before the day
Oh the day before the day, oh the day before the day.

I don't know what you wanna hear
Things changing course, smiles fade to grin
Now the moment's gone, just as I feared
And I was hoping, and I was hoping this time
No longer here, we were feeling bliss
Don't hold your tongue, there's no time for tricks
You've been closing up, I expected this
But I was hoping that you'd stay open this time
I know it won't be long
I know you're almost gone
Hold on, let me in before the day is over
Just let me in before the day is over
Say something soon, we might lose it all
Something we can use to break our fall
There's nothing left to do when we start to stall
And I was hoping that we could hold it this time
I know it won't be long
I know you're almost gone
Hold on, let me in before the day is over
Just let me in before the day is over
Let me in, let me in
Just let me in before the day is over
I can't take another day
I could go insane
There's only so much I can take
I can't live this way
I can't take another day
I could go insane
There's only so much I can take
I can't live this way
(I know it won't be long) let me in, let me in
(I know you're almost gone) just let me in before the day is over
Let me in, let me in
Just let me in before the day is over

I had all but given up on
Finding the one that I could fall into
On the day before you
I was ready to settle for
Less than love and not much more
There was no such thing as a dream come true
Oh, but that was all the day before you
Now you're here and everything's changing
Suddenly, life means so much
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow
And find out this promise is true
I will never have to go back to
The day before you
In your eyes I see forever
Makes me wish that my life never knew
The day before you
Oh, but heaven knows those years without you
Was shaping my heart for the day that I found you
If you're the reason for all that I've been through
Then I'm thankful for the day before you
Yeah yeah
Now you're here and everything's changing
Suddenly, life means so much
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow
And find out this promise is true
I will never have to go back to
The day before you
Was the last day that I ever lived alone
And I'm never going back
No, I'm never going back
Now you're here and everything's changing
Suddenly, life means so much
I can't wait to wake up tomorrow
And find out this promise is true (no I'm never going back)
I will never have to go back to
Yeah, I would never have to go back to
The day before you
The day before you

I must have left my house at eight because I always do
My train, I'm certain, left the station just when it was due
I must have read the morning paper going into town
And having gotten through the editorial, no doubt I must have frowned
I must have made my desk
Around a quarter after nine
With letters to be read
And heaps of papers waiting to be signed
I must have gone to lunch
At half past 12 or so
The usual place, the usual bunch
And still on top of this, I'm pretty sure it must have rained
The day before you came
I must have lit my seventh cigarette at half past two
And at the time, I never even noticed I was blue
I must have kept on dragging
Through the business of the day
Without really knowing anything
I hid a part of me away
At five, I must have left
There's no exception to the rule
A matter of routine
I've done it ever since I finished school
The train back home again
Undoubtedly, I must have read the evening paper then
Oh yes, I'm sure my life was well within its usual frame
The day before you came
I must have opened my front door at eight o'clock or so
And stopped along the way to buy some Chinese food to go
I'm sure I had my dinner watching something on TV
There's not, I think, a single episode of Dallas that I didn't see
I must have gone to bed
Around a quarter after ten
I need a lot of sleep
And so I like to be in bed by then
I must have read a while
The latest one by Marilyn French or something in that style
It's funny, but I had no sense of living without aim
The day before you came
And turning out the light
I must have yawned and cuddled up for yet another night
And rattling on the roof I must have heard the sound of rain
The day before you came

You, my love, is bubbling over
And every day brings us a little bit closer
You've got me dreaming night and day
Dreaming, dreaming, I'll fade away
Something inside has made me decide
That your love is good for me
Peace of mind with you I find
And your love growing sweeter all the time
Keep it growing on (Sweeter than the day before)
Every day with you, darling (Sweeter than the day before)
I love you more and more (Sweeter than the day before)
Oh, yeah (Oh)
Listen
I said it's high, you know you can't get over
It's so deep, you can't get under
Like a hand on a clock that keeps winding up
Your love never stops, oh, no
Something inside has made me decide
That your love is good for me
Listen, peace of mind with you I find
And your love growing sweeter all the time
You keep pulling me back (Sweeter than the day before)
'Cause I need you so (Sweeter than the day before)
And I love you, girl (Sweeter than the day before)
Oh, yeah, oh, yeah (Oh)
Play it for me now
You keep it growing, darling (Sweeter than the day before)
I tell ya, I can feel it, our love (Sweeter than the day before)
You're so good for me, baby (Sweeter than the day before)
Oh, yes, you are, yeah (Oh)
Let me tell you're
Sweeter, sweeter, sweeter
It's growing sweeter everyday
Every day with you, darling
I will love you, I tell you, more and more
Yes I'll do
Ah, baby, I've got to have it
You know I need your love
You've gotten just what I need
You've gotten just
